Quicksilver Gems began 10 years ago, when I thought I knew everything about knitting. I created and sold sweater designs to yarn companies and owned a yarn and needlepoint store. While teaching others the skills of needlepoint, knitting and crocheting, I felt that there was nothing more for me to learn in this area. I was searching for some magic. I needed a sign telling me where to go next. One day, I bought a knotted hematite necklace and I was immediately in love. Within an hour, though, the poor necklace fell apart. This gave me the challenge I was seeking. That Sunday afternoon changed my life. Within an hour I had restrung the necklace on heavy duty thread. I still wear it today from time to time. Instead of teaching classes, I started to take them. My desire was to do it all. Slowly my interest narrowed down to wireworking. In retrospect, I realize that I chose wireworking because it was most like my yarn knitting. Working with wire was fun and rewarding. I learned the craft so quickly that it made me think of the name Quicksilver. Soon the wire became my yarn of old and my crocheted and knitted pieces were now made of silver. I spent the next 10 years selling at Arts and Crafts shows. I found these shows to be rewarding and fun. I made a lot of interesting friends who I will hopefully see again. Now it is time to take the next step and set up my Web store...
